OFFICIAL DARK SKY AREAS: YES
BEST LOCATIONS:
MØN AND NYORD/ LOCATION: SOUTH-EASTERN DENMARK
STATUS: Officially designated Dark Sky park
HIGHLIGHTS:
The Sights: Thanks to the lack of artificial light, you can easily spot the Milky Way, distant galaxies, and meteor showers with the naked eye.
Top Viewing Spots: You can stargaze from the Observation tower on Ulvshalevej, Liselund Park, the boardwalk at GeoCenter Møns Klint, or the Damsholte Observatory.
Guided Experiences: If you want local expertise, you can book stargazing safaris, telescope viewings, and night photography sessions with the Dark Sky Møn Guide.
THY NATIONAL PARK/ LOCATION: JUTLAND - WESTERN COAST OF DENMARK
STATUS: NATIONAL RESERVE
HIGHLIGHTS:
Zero Light Pollution: Thanks to its remote location on Denmark's northwest coast, you can see hundreds of stars that are otherwise completely washed out by city lights.
The Milky Way: On clear nights, the Milky Way stretches vividly across the sky, a spectacle rarely visible from mainland Europe.
Northern Lights: Due to its high northern latitude, Thy is a fantastic spot to occasionally catch the Aurora Borealis during periods of high solar activity.
BULBJERG DARK SKY PARK/ LOCATION: JUTLAND - WESTERN COAST OF DENMARK BORDERINF WITH THY NATIONAL PARK
STATUS: DARK SKY PARK
HIGHLIGHTS:
Thousands of Stars: Because of the strict reduction in light pollution, you can see up to 3,000 stars on a clear night—a massive jump compared to the 20-30 stars visible in larger cities
The Milky Way: The band of the Milky Way stretches vividly across the sky, allowing you to observe the galaxy and classic northern constellations clearly to the naked eye.
Unobstructed Views: Sitting right on the shores of the North Sea near Thy National Park (known as "Denmark's greatest wilderness"), the landscape provides a 360-degree, unobstructed view of the horizon.
Dramatic Backdrop: Instead of just looking at an open field, you are perched above or near the towering limestone cliffs, the beach, and historic World War II bunkers.
Northern Lights: Due to its northern latitude, Bulbjerg is an excellent spot for viewing occasional displays of the Aurora Borealis.
Nordic White Nights: If you visit between late April and early August, you can experience the enchanting "white nights," where the sky never gets entirely dark but boasts a unique, naturally bright twilight.
Protected Environment: The entire 12.5-square-kilometer area is a protected nature reserve rich in wildlife.
Responsible Lighting: The nearby fishing village of Lild Strand has retrofitted all street lighting to be warm-hued, downward-directed, and shielded, actively preventing skyglow and protecting local nocturnal wildlife
MANDØ/ LOCATION: WADDEN SEA NATIONAL PARK, southwest coast of Denmark, REGION: South Jutland
HIGHLIGHTS:
Incredible Visibility: Thanks to its certification as an official International Dark Sky Park, the night sky is so clear that you can see up to 3,500 stars with the naked eye, including a brilliant view of the Milky Way.
Deep Silence and Tranquility: The atmosphere on the island is profoundly peaceful. Because there are no loud city noises, stargazing here feels like you have been transported entirely away from the modern world.
Connection to Nature: The island is a major habitat for migratory birds and seals. Stargazing in the Wadden Sea means observing a nocturnal environment where both the animals and the dark landscape are strictly protected
ANHOLT DARK SKY PARK/ LOCATION: island in the Kattegat Strait between Denmark and Sweden, REGION: east Jutland
STATUS: DARK SKY PARK
HIGHLIGHTS:
Dark sky: Because Anholt is located far out at sea, its night sky is remarkably preserved.
The Desert: About 85% of the island is a protected nature reserve known as "The Desert," which is completely free of artificial lighting. This makes it arguably the darkest place in East Jutland.
Visuals: On clear nights, stargazers can easily see the Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon, meteor showers, and distant galaxies without urban interference.
Local Conservation: To protect the dark skies, local islanders and the Municipality of Norddjurs upgraded all public streetlights in the island’s only village to dark-sky-friendly, low-impact fixtures.
